Political Parties Asked to Appoint Booth Level Agents Ahead of Voter List Revision in Punjab

Punjab Begins Booth Agent Appointment Before Voter Revision

Acting on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, Additional District Election Officer Rohit Gupta conducted a meeting with representatives of recognized political parties regarding the appointment of Booth Level Agents (BLAs) across the district.

During the meeting, representatives were instructed to appoint Booth Level Agents for every polling station across the district’s 11 Assembly constituencies to strengthen electoral preparedness.

Preparation for Special Intensive Revision (SIR)

Officials informed participants that the Election Commission of India (ECI), New Delhi, is likely to soon announce the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Punjab. In view of this upcoming exercise, political parties were asked to ensure timely appointment of BLAs at each polling booth in accordance with ECI guidelines.

These Booth Level Agents will work in coordination with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to improve the accuracy of voter lists. Their responsibilities will include assisting citizens in submitting applications for new voter registrations, corrections, deletions, and updates in electoral rolls.

Guidelines and Forms Distributed

During the meeting, officials distributed Election Commission guidelines along with BLA-1 and BLA-2 forms required for appointing Booth Level Agents.

Representatives Present

The meeting was attended by representatives from various political parties, including:

  • Hargurinder Singh Gill – Indian National Congress (Rural)
  • Satpal Dogra – Bharatiya Janata Party (Urban)
  • Vikram Dandona – Bharatiya Janata Party (Rural)
  • Sarabjit Singh Bittu – Aam Aadmi Party (Urban)
  • Triloki Nath – Aam Aadmi Party (Rural)

Election Tehsildar Inderjit Singh was also present during the proceedings.

Strengthening Electoral Process

Officials emphasized that the appointment of Booth Level Agents will help streamline voter verification and ensure transparency and efficiency in the electoral process ahead of future elections.
