New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended warm greetings to the people of Maharashtra and Goa on the occasion of Gudi Padwa, describing the festival as a symbol of hope, renewal, and new beginnings.
In his message, the Prime Minister highlighted the cultural and historical importance of the festival, which marks the traditional New Year in several parts of India. He explained that the ‘gudi’, a ceremonial flag hoisted outside homes, represents victory, prosperity, and optimism.
Modi noted that Gudi Padwa reflects the triumph of righteousness over adversity and coincides with the arrival of spring — a season associated with rejuvenation, growth, and fresh opportunities.
Emphasising the festival’s relevance in modern India, the Prime Minister said that as the country progresses towards development and self-reliance, the values embodied by traditional celebrations continue to guide society. He added that such festivals help people remain connected to their cultural roots even in a rapidly changing world.
Encouraging citizens to embrace the spirit of the occasion, Modi expressed hope that the New Year would bring happiness, good health, and prosperity to everyone across the nation.
