PM Narendra Modi, Brazil President Lula to Hold Bilateral Talks in New Delhi

Modi, Lula to Review India-Brazil Strategic Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will hold bilateral talks in New Delhi today to review the full spectrum of India–Brazil relations.

The two leaders are expected to discuss cooperation across key sectors and exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest. Discussions will likely cover reformed multilateralism, global governance, and matters concerning the Global South, along with enhanced collaboration in multilateral forums.

India and Brazil have shared a Strategic Partnership since 2006, built on common democratic values, strong people-to-people ties, and expanding economic engagement. Brazil remains India’s largest trading partner in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region.

Bilateral cooperation has steadily expanded in areas such as trade and investment, defence, energy — including renewable energy — agriculture, health and pharmaceuticals, science and technology, innovation, critical minerals, and rare earth materials.

Both countries also align closely on major international issues, including UN reforms, climate change, and counter-terrorism. They maintain active cooperation in key plurilateral platforms such as BRICS, IBSA Dialogue Forum, G20, G4, International Solar Alliance, Global Biofuel Alliance, and Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.

Additionally, India and Brazil coordinate closely in global institutions such as the United Nations, World Trade Organization, and UNESCO.

The meeting is expected to further strengthen strategic, economic, and diplomatic ties between the two major emerging economies.
