New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday presented the government’s stance in the Rajya Sabha regarding the ongoing conflict in West Asia and its potential impact on India, calling the global situation a major test for the nation.
Addressing Parliament, the Prime Minister emphasized that India supports peace through dialogue and diplomacy. He revealed that since the outbreak of the conflict, he has remained in continuous contact with the leaders of Israel, Iran, the United States, and several Gulf nations to promote stability and safeguard Indian interests.
Modi expressed deep concern over ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz and the safety of Indian crew members onboard. He noted that the welfare and livelihood of nearly 10 million Indians living in Gulf countries remain the government’s top priority.
Appealing for unity, the Prime Minister urged Parliament to send a strong global message of peace during this sensitive period.
Government Announces Economic Preparedness Measures
Amid global uncertainty, the central government has initiated war-like preparations to safeguard India’s domestic economy. Modi announced the formation of seven empowered groups, similar to those created during the COVID-19 pandemic, to prepare immediate strategies in key sectors, including:
- Supply chain and logistics management
- Availability of petrol, diesel, and gas
- Fertilizer supply for agriculture
- Inflation control measures
He assured farmers that there would be no shortage of fertilizers during the upcoming sowing season and that the government would shield them from rising international prices.
Focus on Poor and Migrant Workers
The Prime Minister stated that global crises disproportionately affect the poor and migrant workers. He urged state governments to ensure timely delivery of benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana and take proactive steps to protect workers.
Modi also issued a strict warning against black marketing and hoarding, directing authorities to take immediate action to maintain uninterrupted supply of essential commodities.
