Narendra Modi will flag off the Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat Train at Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station in Meerut this afternoon. The Prime Minister will also undertake a metro ride to Meerut South Station and address a public gathering.
During the visit, PM Modi will dedicate to the nation the entire 82-kilometre-long Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor. He will inaugurate the remaining sections of India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), including the 5-kilometre stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and the 21-kilometre section between Meerut South and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh.
With a design speed of 180 km per hour, Namo Bharat is India’s first regional rapid rail system, aimed at transforming high-speed intercity connectivity. The corridor connects key urban centres such as Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar, and Meerut with Delhi. Sarai Kale Khan, the originating station of the corridor, is among the four stations being commissioned as part of the inauguration.
In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate Meerut Metro services operating on the same infrastructure as Namo Bharat between Meerut South and Modipuram. With a maximum operational speed of around 120 km per hour, Meerut Metro will cover the entire stretch in approximately 30 minutes, including scheduled stops.
The integrated operation of Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro on shared infrastructure is expected to enhance regional connectivity, enable seamless urban mobility, and set a new benchmark for integrated transport systems in India.
Additionally, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and dedicate development projects worth around ₹12,930 crore in Meerut, further boosting infrastructure growth in the region.
