Partition Play Staged at 26th National Theatre Festival

During the 10-day-long 26th National Theatre Festival organized at Virsa Vihar, a powerful theatrical performance titled “Tu Agla Varka Phol”, based on the 1947 Partition of India, was presented before an engaged audience.

Renowned playwright Keval Dhaliwal shared that the play narrates the emotional journey of a woman who was 15 years old during the Partition and is now 93, yet continues to live with the painful memories of that tragic period. The storyline unfolds through different phases of her life, reflecting her experiences with the men in her family — her grandfather, husband, son, and grandson — while portraying the lasting impact of Partition and its aftermath.

The play was performed by Dr. Atma Singh Gill, Sajan Kohinoor, Gurditt Singh, Harpreet Singh, Nishan Singh, Gurleen Kaur, Harshita, Akash, Yuvi Nayak, Akashdeep, Vikas Joshi, Robin, Inder, Nitin, and Sukhman.

Music and songs for the production were composed by Kushagar Kalia, while lighting arrangements were handled by Immanuel Singh, enhancing the dramatic presentation.

Among those present to witness the performance were Dr. Harbhajan Singh Bhatia, Ramesh Yadav, Gurdev Singh Mehlanwala, Billa Dhillon from New Zealand, Bhupinder Singh Sandhu, S.P. Arora, and Dr. Gurvinder Singh, along with several theatre enthusiasts.

The play received appreciation for sensitively portraying the emotional scars of Partition and highlighting human resilience through theatre.
