To commemorate the Prakash Gurpurab of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Sikh Guru, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) organized a grand Nagar Kirtan today from the premises of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. The procession was held under the sanctified canopy of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, led by the Panj Pyare (the Five Beloved Ones).
At the commencement ceremony, Giani Parvinderpal Singh, Granthi Singh Sahib at Sri Harmandir Sahib, respectfully placed the sacred Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in the beautifully decorated palki (palanquin). Devotional Gatka performances and Shabad Kirtan Jathas enriched the spiritual atmosphere as thousands of devotees joined in reverence and joy.
Extending greetings to the Sikh community, Giani Parvinderpal Singh described Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s life as “unparalleled and deeply inspiring in the religious history of the world.” He urged the sangat (devotees) to embody the Guru’s message by embracing Bani (spiritual word) and Bana (distinct Sikh identity), following the path shown through Amrit Sanchar (Khande-di-Pahul ceremony).
The Nagar Kirtan received a grand welcome at multiple stops including Ghanta Ghar Plaza, Bazaar Mai Sewan, Bazaar Kathian, Bazaar Papran, Bazaar Bansan, Chatti Khoohi Chowk, Chawal Mandi, Daal Mandi, Dhaba Wasti Ram, Jora Pipal, Bazaar Luharan, Laxmansar Chowk, Baba Sahib Chowk, and Parag Das Chowk, where devotees offered floral tributes and served langar (community meals).
Several dignitaries attended the procession including Chief Granthi of Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Malkit Singh, SGPC members Bhai Amarjit Singh Bhalaipur, Bhai Ajaib Singh Abhiasi, Additional Secretary Gurinder Singh Mathrewal, Joint Secretary Balwinder Singh Khairabad, and Manager Narinder Singh. A large number of devotees participated in the spiritually uplifting event that filled Amritsar with hymns, devotion, and the colors of Sikh faith.
