Serious allegations of irregularities have surfaced regarding the construction of the Daburji (Golden Gate) flyover in Amritsar. Amritsar Member of Parliament Gurjeet Singh Aujla has written to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, demanding a vigilance inquiry into the entire project and strict action against those responsible.
In his letter, Aujla alleged that substandard construction materials are being used in the flyover project, raising serious concerns about its quality and durability. He stated that the issue had been highlighted earlier as well, but despite repeated warnings, the project director and concerned officials continued the construction work without taking corrective measures.
The MP expressed concern that the flyover structure already appears weak, creating a potential risk of collapse in the future. He warned that negligence in a busy and sensitive city like Amritsar could endanger thousands of lives.
Aujla further alleged that the conduct of the officials and the contractor indicates negligence, dereliction of duty, and possible corruption. He emphasized that continuing poor-quality construction despite repeated warnings is completely unacceptable.
In his communication to the central government, Aujla placed three major demands:
- Immediate vigilance investigation into the entire project.
- Strict action against responsible officials and the contractor.
- Urgent technical inspection of the flyover and implementation of necessary safety measures, including closure if required.
He urged the central government to treat the matter with the highest priority and ensure a time-bound investigation to prevent any potential accident.
