MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla Inspects Airport Road Traffic Crisis in Amritsar, Orders Immediate Action

Amid rising traffic congestion on Airport Road, Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla personally visited key choke points to assess the situation on the ground. Accompanied by officials from multiple departments, he reviewed the traffic crisis and issued immediate directions to ensure corrective measures.

The MP inspected Gumtala Bypass, Gumtala Flyover, areas outside In & Out Bakery, Grewal Farm on Majitha Road, Loharka Road and other major traffic-prone stretches on Airport Road. Officials from the Irrigation Department, Public Works Department (PWD), and the National Highways Authority were present during the inspection.

At the Gumtala Bypass Flyover, Aujla proposed the construction of a service lane and the extension of the road to ease traffic flow. He also suggested building a parallel road along the drain from Gumtala to Loharka Road to provide an alternative route and reduce congestion pressure.

During the visit to Majitha Road Bypass near Grewal Farm, the MP proposed installing two new road cuts and setting up traffic signals to improve traffic management. He clearly directed officials to begin work by installing traffic signals at priority locations, including Gumtala underpass, near In & Out Bakery, and outside Shri Chand Gurdwara Road.

Aujla highlighted that the traffic situation on Airport Road has become so severe that passengers often miss their flights due to prolonged jams. He said this not only causes inconvenience to residents but also impacts the city’s image.

The MP instructed departments to coordinate and prepare a phased implementation plan. The long-term solution will include road widening, construction of service lanes, additional road cuts, and installation of traffic signals.

Former MLA Raj Kumar Verka, former MLA Jugal Kishore Sharma and Congress district president Mitthu Madan were also present during the inspection.

Gurjeet Singh Aujla assured residents that resolving the Airport Road traffic issue is a top priority and that commuters will soon get relief from daily traffic snarls.
