Mohali Mayor Amarjit Singh ‘Jeeti’ Sidhu Acquitted in 2010 Murder Case, One Accused Convicted Under Section 304

Mohali: Mohali Mayor Amarjit Singh alias Jeeti Sidhu, brother of former Congress Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu, has been acquitted in a long-pending murder case linked to a 2010 family clash. According to the case details, a CBI court has cleared village sarpanch Kulwant Singh of Buriali and Mayor Jeeti Sidhu of all charges, while holding one person guilty in the incident.

The case dates back to December 2010, when a dispute between two families escalated into a violent altercation. During the clash, Rattan Singh was shot dead, while Dilbar Singh from the opposite side sustained a bullet injury in his thigh. Police had registered cross cases, and the matter was later transferred to the CBI for further investigation.

One FIR named sarpanch Kulwant Singh Buriali, Mohali Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu, Dilbar Singh and Jatinder Singh on murder charges, while the cross FIR was registered against Harjinder Singh, Harpreet Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Sadhu Singh, Jasvir Singh and a total of seven persons. The CBI court has now dropped Section 302 (murder) and convicted Dilbar Singh under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), sending him to jail, with December 24 fixed as the date for announcing the quantum of sentence.

Accused from the other side have been ordered to pay a fine of ₹500 each. The verdict has brought major legal relief to Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu and sarpanch Kulwant Singh after years of trial in the Buriali murder case.
