Ministry of Home Affairs Grants One-Year Extension to Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur

MHA Extends Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur Tenure

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has granted a one-year extension to Chandigarh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwardeep Kaur. Her three-year tenure had ended on March 8, 2026, during which she had proceeded on leave.

In her absence, the temporary charge of SSP was assigned to Sumeet Pratap Singh, SSP Traffic.

According to an official order dated March 16, 2026, signed by Sakshi Mittal, Director in the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the proposal of the MHA to extend Kanwardeep Kaur’s inter-cadre deputation.

An IPS officer of the Punjab cadre, her deputation to the AGMUT cadre (Chandigarh segment) has now been extended for a period of one year beyond March 8, 2026.

The order has been communicated to senior officials, including Govind Mohan, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Home Minister’s Office, the Cabinet Secretariat, and other concerned authorities in Punjab and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

Earlier, Home Secretary Govind Mohan had confirmed that all necessary approvals were in place, and only the formal order from the ACC was awaited.
