Chandigarh: The political discourse in Punjab has once again intensified following sharp remarks by Aam Aadmi Party MP Malvinder Singh Kang targeting Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal. Kang raised serious concerns over Badal’s recent statements regarding decisions of the Sikh supreme authority, Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
Kang said questioning the Akal Takht’s rulings not only reflects disappointment but also shows a lack of respect for Sikh traditions and institutions. “As Sukhbir Badal witnesses his political ground shifting, he appears to be targeting sacred institutions—a deeply unfortunate trend,” Kang stated.
Recalling a past incident, Kang mentioned that Badal had once been summoned by the Akal Takht and had admitted his mistakes in the presence of the Guru Maharaj, which was broadcast live globally. However, during a later rally at Sri Muktsar Sahib, Badal reportedly reversed his stance, claiming he had committed no wrongdoing. According to Kang, this double stance reflects arrogance and insensitivity towards the Sikh community.
Responding to Badal’s recent claim of a conspiracy against him at the Akal Takht, Kang remarked that such accusations are highly inappropriate, as the five beloved Sikhs (Panj Singh Sahibaan) themselves are present to witness the decisions of the Guru Maharaj. Kang emphasized that no non-Sikh could make such claims without displaying gross disrespect.
This exchange highlights the rising tension in Punjab’s political landscape, with growing scrutiny over statements related to religious and community institutions.
