The Lok Sabha on Tuesday revoked the suspension of eight opposition Members of Parliament after an expression of regret from the Congress leadership.
The decision came following a motion moved by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju in the House. The suspension of the MPs had been imposed earlier during the Budget Session on February 3 due to disruption of proceedings and throwing papers at the Speaker during a heated debate.
The MPs whose suspension was revoked include Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, Manickam Tagore, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Hibi Eden, C. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Prashant Yadaorao Padole, S. Venkatesh, and Dean Kuriakose.
Congress Chief Whip K. Suresh expressed regret over the “unintentional negligence” of the MPs during the proceedings.
The motion to revoke the suspension received support from Dharmendra Yadav of the Samajwadi Party and Supriya Sule of the Nationalist Congress Party (SP).
Addressing the House, Kiren Rijiju emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline and respecting parliamentary procedures for the smooth functioning of legislative business. He highlighted that clearly defined boundaries are essential to ensure effective proceedings.
Following the discussion, the House passed the motion through a voice vote, allowing the MPs to resume participation in the ongoing Budget Session. After the revocation, the MPs paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi within the Parliament complex.
