Chandigarh: In a significant legal development following the Bahibal Kalan firing case, the Kotkapura firing case has now been transferred to a court in Chandigarh. The Punjab and Haryana High Court issued the order, moving the trial from Punjab to the district court in Chandigarh.
The petition for the transfer was filed by former police officers Charanjit Sharma and Parmaraj Umranangal, requesting that the case be heard by a neutral court outside Punjab. After careful consideration, the High Court approved the petition.
Last year, the Bahibal Kalan firing case had similarly been moved to Chandigarh, meaning both sensitive cases will now be heard in the same jurisdiction. Legal experts believe this decision will help ensure transparency and impartiality in the proceedings.
This move underscores the judiciary’s commitment to fair trials in high-profile and sensitive cases, while also streamlining the legal process for related matters.
