Kidnapped Newborn Rescued Within 24 Hours in Amritsar, Accused Arrested

Amritsar Police Rescue Kidnapped Newborn in 24 Hours

In a swift police operation, a newborn baby kidnapped from Guru Nanak Dev Hospital was safely rescued within 24 hours, and the accused woman was arrested by Majitha Road Police, officials confirmed on Thursday.

According to police reports, complainant Rani Kaur, wife of Lovepreet Singh and a resident of Kasel Patti Killewali village in Tarn Taran district, informed Majitha Road Police Station that she had given birth to a baby boy on March 15, 2026. Due to health complications, she was referred from PHC Kasel to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital (Bebe Nanki), Amritsar, where she was admitted to Gynecology Ward No. 2.

The family stated that an unidentified woman aged around 25–30 had been visiting the ward for the past three days, interacting with patients and frequently playing with newborn babies. She gradually gained the trust of families and often held the complainant’s child.

On March 19, the woman allegedly took the newborn in her arms on the pretext of showing the baby to relatives and left the ward. When she failed to return, the family realized the child had been abducted and immediately alerted hospital authorities and the police.

Acting on the directions of Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar (IPS) and senior officers, multiple investigation teams were formed under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police Gagandeep Singh (PPS). Station House Officer Inspector Ranjit Singh Dhaliwal and Sub-Inspector Harpinder Singh led the investigation.

Using CCTV footage and technical surveillance, police traced and arrested the accused within 24 hours. The three-day-old kidnapped baby was safely recovered and handed back to the family.

Police officials stated that further investigation into the case is ongoing.
