The Khalsa College Charitable Society celebrated its 136th Foundation Day with religious fervour and enthusiasm at the college campus in Amritsar.
Speaking on the occasion, Chancellor of Khalsa University and President of the Governing Council, Satyajit Singh Majithia, said that since its establishment on February 22, 1890, the institution has remained committed to strengthening not only education but also moral and religious values. He described the 136-year journey as a symbol of the harmonious blend of academic excellence and spirituality.
He emphasized that the institution aims to inspire students not just through textbooks but by nurturing high ideals and strong character.
The religious ceremony was held at the campus Gurdwara Sahib, where the bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib was performed. Hazoori Ragi Bhai Sarwan Singh from Sri Harmandir Sahib recited Gurbani kirtan, inspiring the congregation with devotional hymns and highlighting the importance of Sikh traditions and service to humanity.
Pro-Chancellor and Honorary Secretary of the Council, Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, shed light on the historical evolution of the institution. He stated that the Khalsa College Establishment Committee was formed in Lahore on February 22, 1890, which later led to the establishment of Khalsa College Middle School and Khalsa College. Over time, it evolved into the present-day Khalsa College Charitable Society, Amritsar.
He noted that institutions under the society have earned a distinguished reputation both nationally and internationally. Thousands of students educated here are serving in significant positions across various sectors, bringing laurels to the nation. Alongside academics, the society has also contributed substantially to sports, cultural activities, and social welfare initiatives.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mehal Singh and noted Sikh historian Dr. Inderjit Singh Gogoani also addressed the gathering, stating that the foundation day reaffirms the society’s role as a symbol of education, values, and service for future generations.
During the ceremony, Bhai Gurmej was honoured with the ‘Qaom Da Maan’ award. The English book titled “History of Khalsa College Governing Council (1890–2026)” authored by Dharaminder Singh Ratol was also formally released.
The event witnessed the presence of several council members, principals of various institutions, faculty members, students, and a large number of devotees.
The celebration once again highlighted the enduring legacy of Khalsa College as a pioneer of modern education in Punjab while remaining deeply rooted in Sikh values and traditions.
