Kamla Dhaliwal, Head of the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) UK Chapter, met Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi to discuss key political issues, including an upcoming rally in Punjab.
During the meeting, discussions focused on the Congress party’s planned protest against the India–US trade deal. The party is preparing to organize a major rally in Punjab next week, where Rahul Gandhi is expected to participate.
Rahul Gandhi has strongly opposed the trade agreement both inside and outside Parliament, expressing concerns that the deal could harm farmers’ interests and negatively impact India’s agricultural sector. According to Congress leaders, the agreement may increase foreign corporate influence in agriculture, posing risks to local farmers.
The proposed rally aims to mobilize farmers and citizens across Punjab to raise their voice against the trade deal and demand corrective measures from the government.
Kamla Dhaliwal, representing overseas Congress supporters, emphasized the importance of safeguarding farmers’ rights, minority interests, and India’s core values such as secularism and diversity. The Indian Overseas Congress expressed its support and appreciation for Rahul Gandhi’s continued efforts in advocating these issues.
