India–US Trade Deal Boosts Growth, Protects Farmers: Jakhar

India–US trade

Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar stated that the India–US trade agreement has opened new doors of economic growth for the country while ensuring complete protection of farmers’ interests. He said the agreement would act as a strong runway for India’s progress toward becoming a developed nation.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP district office in Amritsar, Sunil Jakhar emphasized that the agreement has been structured carefully to safeguard Indian agriculture, especially farmers from Punjab. He clarified that all crops grown in Punjab have been kept completely outside the scope of the agreement, ensuring that no adverse impact falls on local farmers.

Jakhar highlighted that while the United States follows the “Make America Great Again” principle, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has advanced the “Make India Great” vision through this agreement. He said the deal allows Indian industries and trade sectors greater access to the American market while enabling India to import advanced technology required for growth.

He further stated that Indian products would now face lower tariffs in the US market compared to competing countries, creating better opportunities for exports. This development is expected to significantly boost industrial growth and create new employment opportunities across the country.

Sunil Jakhar said the agreement would be particularly beneficial for the textile sector, noting that the US textile market is valued at approximately 345 billion dollars. With improved market access, Indian textile industries, including those in Punjab, are expected to gain a strong advantage, which will positively impact the state’s economy.

He also shared that the agreement will enable agricultural exports worth one billion dollars to the US at zero percent tariff, while simultaneously ensuring a strong protective framework for Indian farmers. Jakhar stressed that the agreement not only secures the present farming community but also opens alternative employment avenues for the next generation.

Prior to the press conference, Sunil Jakhar held a meeting with mandal presidents from Amritsar Urban, Amritsar Rural-1, and Amritsar Rural-2 districts, discussing upcoming party programs and organizational strategies.
