High Alert in Delhi Over Suspected LeT IED Plot Near Red Fort

Delhi on High Alert Over Red Fort IED Threat

India’s national capital New Delhi has been placed on high alert following intelligence inputs about a possible terror threat targeting the historic Red Fort area.

According to intelligence sources, the Pakistan-based militant organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) is allegedly planning an IED attack near the main gate of the Red Fort, a densely crowded zone frequented by tourists and locals. The alert also suggests that prominent temples in the Chandni Chowk area could be potential targets.

The warning comes at a time when investigations are still ongoing into the November 2025 car bomb blast near a metro station close to the Red Fort, in which 13 people were killed and more than 20 injured. Investigating agencies had termed the explosion a terrorist act and registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Intelligence inputs indicate that alleged sleeper cells may attempt to plant an improvised explosive device (IED) in a busy public area near the monument. The Red Fort has previously been targeted in terror attacks, including a December 2000 assault that resulted in three fatalities.

Security agencies have intensified surveillance and deployed additional forces across key locations in Old Delhi. Authorities are conducting thorough checks in crowded markets and near religious sites to prevent any untoward incident.

Officials have urged citizens to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity to law enforcement agencies. No official confirmation of an imminent attack has been released, but preventive measures have been significantly strengthened as a precautionary step.
