Harpal Singh Cheema Slams Centre Over ‘India-US Deal’, Flags Threat to Farmers

Cheema Targets Centre Over India-US Deal

The farmers’ issue has once again taken centre stage in Punjab politics. Senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party and Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led Central Government, alleging that the so-called ‘India-US deal’ is a move to hand over India’s agriculture sector to the United States.

Addressing the media at the party office, Cheema claimed that if cheap American milk powder, cheese, grains and other agricultural products enter Indian markets at lower prices, it will directly impact farmers in Punjab and across the country. He questioned how local farmers would be able to sell their produce if foreign goods are made available at cheaper rates.

Cheema reminded that Punjab’s farmers have been filling the nation’s food granaries for nearly five decades. Through wheat and paddy cultivation, the state has played a crucial role in ensuring national food security. He stated that the same farmers who led the country into the era of the Green Revolution are now being weakened through economic policies.

The AAP leader further accused the Centre of ignoring the concerns of farmers and traders while allegedly negotiating trade arrangements. He warned that any policy harming the agricultural backbone of the country would face strong resistance in Punjab.

The controversy surrounding the alleged India-US trade agreement continues to intensify, with farmer groups and political parties raising concerns over its potential long-term impact on India’s agriculture sector.
