Amritsar, December 22: Reacting sharply to Punjab government’s announcement of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in a matter related to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami stated that government interference in internal administrative matters of religious institutions is not only unnecessary but also against Sikh traditions and a direct challenge to Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
He clarified that Sri Akal Takht Sahib had already constituted an inquiry committee which conducted a thorough investigation, and based on orders from the Akal Takht Jathedar, departmental action has been taken against the guilty employees without any leniency.
Dhami accused the Punjab government of politicizing the issue linked to financial misappropriation by some employees, harming Sikh sentiments and challenging Akal Takht’s supremacy, urging the government to avoid decisions in matters tied to Sikh emotions.
