Senior Sikh religious leader Giani Raghbir Singh made explosive allegations during a press conference, accusing the Badal family of corruption within the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).
Addressing the media, Raghbir Singh raised serious concerns regarding the alleged sale of land belonging to Gurdwara Amb Sahib and the controversial issue of 328 missing holy saroops (copies) of the Guru Granth Sahib. He claimed that the matter has been simmering for a long time and deserves full transparency.
Allegations Against Sukhbir Badal
Raghbir Singh directly targeted Sukhbir Singh Badal, accusing him of benefiting from land deals carried out under the SGPC’s authority. He further alleged that crores of rupees were earned by selling leftover langar rotis meant for devotees.
The former Jathedar stated that he has been receiving calls from India and abroad regarding the disappearance of 328 sacred saroops. He described the issue as deeply concerning for the global Sikh community.
Claims of Internal Corruption
He also alleged growing corruption within the SGPC, claiming that funds from “Guru di Golak” were being misused, lands were being sold for personal benefit, and profits were generated through construction projects and shop rentals.
Raghbir Singh further claimed that during the recitation of Akhand Path, irregularities in financial handling were reported. He alleged that an official had demanded Rs 5 lakh to facilitate a transfer related to Sri Muktsar Sahib.
According to him, such incidents have been occurring under the control of a single family for the past 23 years. He appealed to the Sikh community to ensure that the SGPC is freed from the influence of one family and that the complete truth is brought before the Sangat.
Political Pressure Allegations
Referring to past incidents, including the Behbal Kalan episode, he alleged that pressure was exerted on him during the Tarn Taran by-election to direct “Panthic votes” toward a particular political party. He claimed he refused to misuse his religious position for political purposes.
Raghbir Singh also stated that after the December 2 decision, he was asked to shift blame onto the RSS, which he declined.
He concluded by urging transparency, accountability, and reforms within Sikh religious institutions, emphasizing that the community deserves to know the full truth.
