Giani Gurmukh Singh, Head Granthi of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, has issued a clarification in response to a recent media statement by Giani Raghbir Singh regarding the service (seva) of a sacred saroop and historical weapons.
Addressing the matter, Giani Gurmukh Singh stated that the injured sacred saroop associated with the Saka Sri Nankana Sahib is being preserved and served with complete respect and in accordance with established maryada (religious protocol). He emphasized that the decision to undertake seva was made after considering its deteriorating condition due to flood damage.
He further clarified that the seva of the sacred shastars (weapons) related to Guru Sahib was carried out following expert advice and only where necessary. These weapons had reportedly suffered damage during the military action of June 1984. The responsibility for kar seva was entrusted to Baba Balwinder Singh and Baba Narendra Singh of Hazoor Sahib, who ensured that restoration work was conducted by skilled artisans while maintaining historical authenticity and reverence.
Giani Gurmukh Singh pointed out that during the time of the seva, Giani Raghbir Singh himself was serving at Sri Akal Takht Sahib. He stressed that individuals holding respected religious positions should avoid creating confusion among the Sangat on matters connected to Sikh sentiments and sacred heritage.
He also termed the concerns raised regarding the hilt of a kirpan as baseless and appealed to the Sangat to remain cautious against misleading propaganda.
The clarification aims to reassure the Sikh community that all actions were taken with due responsibility, respect, and adherence to religious traditions.
