Former Punjab Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar Sent to 5-Day Police Remand by Court

Laljit Singh Bhullar Gets 5-Day Police Remand

Former Punjab minister Laljit Singh Bhullar appeared before a court on Wednesday amid tight security arrangements, where the court granted a five-day police remand following arguments from both prosecution and defense.

Punjab Police had sought a seven-day remand for further interrogation; however, after hearing both sides, the court approved a five-day police custody remand. Officials stated that investigators will continue questioning Bhullar during this period and examine additional evidence related to the case.

The court issued the remand order after detailed proceedings, directing police to carry forward the investigation and uncover further facts linked to the matter. The development has intensified political debate across Punjab.

The case is connected to the alleged suicide of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, District Manager of the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation in Amritsar. Before taking the extreme step, Randhawa reportedly recorded a video in which he held then-minister Laljit Singh Bhullar responsible.

Following sustained demands from the victim’s family and opposition parties, Bhullar resigned from his ministerial position. He was subsequently arrested by police earlier this week as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police officials maintain that the remand period will be crucial for questioning the accused and verifying allegations associated with the case. Further legal proceedings are expected after the completion of police custody.
