An FIR has been registered against a woman in Lucknow for allegedly posting objectionable remarks about Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief and former Chief Minister Mayawati on social media.
The case pertains to the Krishna Nagar police station area, where a complaint was lodged by BSP Cantt Assembly office-bearer Ganga Ram Verma. According to police sources, the accused woman has been identified through a Facebook profile named Shreya Yadav.
In his complaint, Verma stated that on February 9 at around 4 pm, a party meeting was underway at the residence of Cantt Assembly in-charge Devesh Kumar Gautam in Damodar Nagar, Alambagh. During the meeting, while browsing Facebook, he allegedly came across a post from the said account containing objectionable and inappropriate language directed at Mayawati.
The complaint alleges that the post used highly offensive and socially unacceptable words, hurting the personal dignity of the BSP supremo and angering party workers.
Following the complaint, Krishna Nagar police registered an FIR and initiated an investigation. Authorities have begun collecting digital evidence, including screenshots of the Facebook post. Officials are also examining the timing, context, and intent behind the post to determine whether it violates relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including provisions related to promoting enmity or disturbing social harmony.
BSP workers have demanded strict legal action, stating that such incidents on social media hurt the sentiments of party supporters and the Dalit-Bahujan community.
Police officials confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made so far, but efforts are underway to verify the authenticity and details of the Facebook account involved.
