Farm Labour Union Holds Press Conference Over Alleged Illegal Land Occupation in Amritsar Village

Labour Union Protests Illegal Land Occupation Issue

The All India Farm Labour Union (District Amritsar) organized a press conference at its Amritsar office regarding the alleged illegal occupation of a designated dumping site used by labourers in Ram Tirath Kaler village.

The press conference was led by General Secretary Jasbir Singh Jhabal, farmer leader Comrade Sucha Singh Ajnala, and CITU leader Charanjit Singh Majitha. Addressing the media, the leaders alleged that former Akali Dal-affiliated Sarpanch Pratap Singh Kaler has illegally occupied the land meant for labourers to dispose of waste materials.

Union representatives stated that village leaders, including Baba Kuldeep Singh Kaler and Panchayat member Darshan Singh, had earlier submitted written complaints to several administrative authorities, including the Deputy Commissioner Amritsar, ADC, DDPO, and BDPO.

According to the union, the Deputy Commissioner forwarded the complaint to the SDM Ajnala for action. However, they claimed that no concrete steps have been taken so far to vacate the land, leading to growing resentment among village residents and labourers.

During the press conference, union leaders warned the district administration that if the land is not freed from illegal occupation by April 15, the organization will be compelled to launch a protest movement. They added that responsibility for any escalation would lie with the district administration.

District Vice President Satnam Singh Kaler and Tehsil General Secretary Lakhwinder Singh Kaler also addressed the gathering and urged labourers to unite and prepare for collective struggle to safeguard their rights.

Several labour activists and workers, including Tarsem Singh, Nirmal Singh, Pargat Singh, Balwinder Singh Ladi, Mandeep Singh Manna, Dalbir Singh Beera, Nishan Singh, Gurvinder Singh, Lovely, Malkit Singh, Gurmukh Singh Gokha, Jaswant Singh Ladi, Sahibpreet Singh, Satpal Singh Baria, Jobanjeet Singh Baria, and Gagandeep Singh Baria, were present at the meeting along with many others.
