Family of Ranjit Singh Alleges Fake Encounter After Gurdaspur Police Operation

Ranjit Singh Encounter Sparks Family Protest

The family of Ranjit Singh, who was killed in a police encounter following the recent attack on a police chowki in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district, has come forward alleging that the killing was a “fake encounter.”

The attack on a police outpost in the border area of Durangala had shaken the state, resulting in the deaths of two police personnel. Following the incident, the Punjab Police launched a large-scale search operation across the region.

Senior police officials confirmed in a press conference that three youths had been arrested in connection with the chowki attack. Among them was Ranjit Singh, who was later killed during an alleged police encounter. Authorities stated that the action was taken in response to the situation during the operation.

However, soon after the announcement, the case took a dramatic turn. Outside Ranjit Singh’s residence in village Adiyan, family members and villagers gathered in protest. His mother, Sukhwinder Kaur, and relative Harvinder Singh alleged that Ranjit was picked up from his home by police before the encounter.

The family has claimed that he was falsely implicated in the case and demanded strict action against the officials involved. “Our son was taken illegally and killed. We want justice and an impartial investigation,” family members said.

Villagers have also supported the family’s demand for a fair and transparent probe, stating that the truth must come out to remove any doubts surrounding the encounter.

Meanwhile, police have maintained that the operation was conducted lawfully as part of the investigation into the chowki attack. Further details are awaited as the matter continues to unfold.
