Chaupal: Education Minister Rohit Thakur said that every effort will be made to ensure that the Chaupal constituency does not lag behind in development. During his visit to Chaupal in Shimla district, he inaugurated a temporary sports hostel built at a cost of ₹14 lakh at Government Senior Secondary School Chaupal.
He also laid the foundation stone for a volleyball sports hostel to be built at a cost of ₹62.41 lakh and a ₹25 lakh primary section office building at the school.
The Minister said that Himachal Pradesh is making new strides in education and providing students with quality education and modern facilities. He informed that, for the first time, 650 physical education teachers were sent to Patiala for five-day training so that students can achieve greater success in sports. He added that in the 2025–26 session, Himachal students won 8 gold, 11 silver, and 29 bronze medals at national-level games.
Thakur also announced that three new sports hostels have been approved: a volleyball hostel in Chaupal, a girls’ kabaddi hostel in Shillai, and a girls’ handball hostel in Ghumarwin.
He further stated that 151 new CBSE-affiliated schools will be opened across the state, including four in Chaupal constituency—at Nerwa, Kupvi, and Balsan. For these schools, 3,468 staff will be recruited. Additionally, 16 sports coach positions will be filled to strengthen sports training alongside academics.
The minister highlighted that Himachal is the first state to have 12 sports hostels, which will be upgraded with a budget of ₹15 crore. He also noted that the state has hosted three national-level sports competitions in recent years, doubled players’ diet money, and increased prize money to encourage athletes.
He announced financial support for library books and desks for the school, and assured that efforts will be made to introduce kabaddi facilities in the hostel, build an indoor stadium and playground in the region, and address other local demands.
During his visit, the minister also inspected a science exhibition organized by school students and appreciated their efforts. He interacted with locals to understand their concerns.
