Dr Archita Mahajan Highlights Benefits of Proper Hydration for Heart Health Before 40

Health expert Dr Archita Mahajan has emphasized the importance of proper hydration for maintaining heart health, especially for individuals under the age of 40. She stated that while drinking normal water is beneficial for overall well-being, maintaining hydration throughout the day is more important than consuming water only at bedtime.

Dr Mahajan, a Nutrition Dietitian and Child Care expert with a Master’s degree in Food, Nutrition and Dietetics, explained that large observational studies suggest individuals who remain well-hydrated throughout the day have a lower long-term risk of heart failure, stroke, and overall cardiovascular disease. Adequate fluid intake supports blood volume, blood pressure regulation, kidney function, and vascular health — all crucial for a healthy heart.

She clarified that there is no strong clinical trial evidence proving that drinking a single glass of water right before sleep directly reduces cardiovascular risk. However, consistent hydration is far more beneficial compared to consuming sugary drinks or experiencing chronic mild dehydration.

According to Dr Mahajan, experts generally recommend spreading water intake evenly during the day rather than drinking excessive fluids late at night, as it may disturb sleep and increase nighttime bathroom visits.

She further advised that older adults should carefully balance hydration with sleep quality and always consult their doctor, especially if they have underlying heart or kidney conditions.

Dr Archita Mahajan has been nominated for the Padma Bhushan National Award and has been honored by the Punjab and Himachal Pradesh governments for her contributions in the field of nutrition and health awareness.

The key takeaway, she noted, is simple: prioritize regular hydration habits for long-term heart health rather than relying on a single bedtime routine.
