Dense Fog Disrupts Flights at Amritsar Airport, Dubai and Mumbai Services Diverted

Dense fog and poor weather conditions severely disrupted air traffic at Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport in Amritsar, leading to multiple flight diversions and delays and causing major inconvenience to passengers.

According to airport sources, an Air India Express flight (IX-192) scheduled to arrive from Dubai at around 1 a.m. was diverted to Delhi due to extremely low visibility over Amritsar. A flight arriving from Delhi later circled over the Amritsar airport but was not granted landing clearance and had to return to the capital.

An Air India flight from Mumbai also faced similar issues. Air Traffic Control (ATC) reportedly denied landing permission owing to dense fog, forcing the aircraft to be diverted to Jaipur instead of Amritsar.

The impact was not limited to international operations. A Qatar Airways flight scheduled to depart from Amritsar for Doha at about 4:20 a.m. could not take off on time because of the adverse weather. Several domestic flights to and from Delhi, Srinagar, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Shimla and other cities were delayed, with no departures possible from Amritsar during the early morning window.
