Shimla – AICC spokesperson Sukhjeet Singh Kheda launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led central government during a press conference in Shimla, calling the removal of Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) an insult to the Father of the Nation. He alleged that while Godse physically killed Gandhi, BJP is now murdering his soul by erasing his name.
Kheda described the decision as a direct betrayal of the poor and labourers. He explained that the new funding formula shifts 60% burden to the Centre and 40% to states, which are already debt-ridden, effectively weakening the scheme to render it ineffective. No consultation was held with opposition parties on this key change, prompting nationwide Congress protests demanding restoration of the original scheme.
Kheda further accused the BJP government of misusing ED and CBI agencies for political vendettas against opponents. He praised Rahul Gandhi for continuously fighting this political persecution and vowed that Congress will sustain the battle.
