Amritsar – Raising voice against drugs proved costly for a family in Amritsar’s Gate Hakima area. Two youths from the family were targeted in a murderous attack by drug peddlers after opposing the open sale of smack (chitta) in the locality, leaving both seriously injured and rushed to hospital.
The victims revealed they had been protesting drug sales in their neighborhood for a long time and raising awareness among locals. Enraged by this, some youths arrived outside their home late at night and launched a sudden assault with bricks, stones, and sharp weapons. The attack was so ferocious that both youths fell to the ground bleeding profusely.
A family member accused local drug sellers of openly boasting that they pay the police, which is why no action is taken against them. She claimed the peddlers issue threats fearlessly, declaring they will continue selling smack openly.
On the other hand, police officer Jaswinder Singh from Gate Hakima station stated that an investigation has begun, the accused have been identified, and they will be arrested soon. Strict legal action has been assured, while the victim’s family demands justice and protect.
