Amritsar, February 20 — Punjab BJP spokesperson Prof. Sarchand Singh Khiala has strongly criticized Sukhbir Singh Badal over recent developments related to Akal Takht decisions, calling it a sign of moral decline.
Reacting to statements made by former Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh, Prof. Khiala expressed deep concern and termed the situation unfortunate for Sikh religious institutions and traditions. He stated that if any pressure was exerted on Sikh authorities to shift blame onto BJP and RSS regarding the December 2, 2024 decision against Akali Dal leadership, it would be highly condemnable.
Khiala emphasized that the decisions taken at Akal Takht were made independently and based on Gurmat principles, without any political pressure. Attempting to portray those decisions as politically influenced is a direct attack on the autonomy and dignity of Sikh institutions.
He further alleged that blaming BJP for these decisions reflects political dishonesty and damages trust. Khiala urged Badal to publicly apologize and clarify his position.
Highlighting the importance of institutional respect, he added that the sanctity of Sikh traditions, the authority of Akal Takht, and the dignity of Jathedars must remain above political interests. Any attempt to politicize these institutions, he said, will not be accepted by the community.
