Bill Gates Discusses Tech-Driven Governance and Public Health in Andhra Pradesh

Chairman of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates, visited Andhra Pradesh today and held detailed discussions with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on leveraging technology to strengthen governance and public health systems.

Mr Gates was received at Gannavaram Airport by State Minister Nara Lokesh along with senior officials. At the State Secretariat in Amaravati, he was formally welcomed by the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. Mr Naidu introduced members of his cabinet and senior bureaucrats during the meeting.

Officials made detailed presentations on Andhra Pradesh’s digital governance initiatives at the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) centre. These included Data Lake, AWARE 2.0 and WhatsApp Governance platforms designed to improve citizen service delivery. Authorities highlighted the use of blockchain technology and QR code-based mechanisms to enhance transparency, security and efficiency in public administration.

The Chief Minister explained how integrated data systems are being utilized to monitor key development indicators and enable evidence-based decision-making. He also briefed Mr Gates on the proposed Amaravati capital city project, emphasizing plans to allocate 30 percent of the city’s layout to green and blue spaces as part of a sustainable urban development strategy.

Mr Gates also reviewed the Sanjeevani health project being implemented in Chittoor district. The initiative focuses on digital health records, affordable diagnostic services and technology-driven healthcare solutions aimed at improving access and outcomes.

The visit underscores Andhra Pradesh’s push toward technology-enabled governance and collaboration with global institutions to enhance public service delivery and healthcare infrastructure.
