Chandigarh/Amritsar: In a major development in the alleged suicide case of Punjab State Warehousing Corporation District Manager Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, Punjab Police has arrested the personal assistant (PA) of Aam Aadmi Party MLA and former minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, days after Bhullar himself was taken into custody.
The action has further intensified political tensions in Punjab, with opposition parties launching fresh attacks on the state government.
Arrest Based on FIR in Suicide Case
The arrests were made following an FIR registered in connection with Randhawa’s suicide. The case names Laljit Singh Bhullar, his father, and his personal assistant as accused.
According to sources, Randhawa had recorded a video before his death in which he allegedly held Bhullar directly responsible for the circumstances leading to his suicide.
Sunil Jakhar Slams Punjab Government
Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar criticized the Aam Aadmi Party government, claiming that Bhullar’s arrest happened only after indications from Union Home Minister Amit Shah that the case could be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
In a post shared on social media platform X, Jakhar alleged that the state government feared a CBI probe could expose larger corruption networks and financial dealings. He demanded an impartial investigation and warned against delaying the probe under procedural excuses.
Opposition Pressure Mounts
The issue had united opposition parties including the Shiromani Akali Dal, Indian National Congress, and Bharatiya Janata Party, all of whom demanded strict action against Bhullar.
Following mounting pressure from opposition leaders and the victim’s family for three consecutive days, Bhullar resigned from his ministerial post before being arrested by police.
Investigation Continues
Police officials confirmed that further investigation is ongoing and additional evidence is being examined as part of the probe into the alleged abetment of suicide case.
The case continues to dominate Punjab’s political landscape, raising questions about accountability and governance.
