The Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government has announced the formation of the Punjab Trade Commission to strengthen the state’s business community and simplify procedures for traders, shopkeepers and entrepreneurs.
The announcement was made during a district-level coordination meeting with traders at Town Hall in Amritsar.
Dedicated Platform for Traders
Punjab State Traders Commission member Sheetal Juneja stated that the main objective of the commission is to ensure that traders do not have to run from office to office for routine approvals, departmental clearances and daily business-related work.
He said that for years, small traders and shopkeepers have been forced to waste valuable time over minor issues, and the present government is determined to change this system.
Leaders Reaffirm Support for Business Community
MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal emphasized that traders and small businesses form the backbone of the state’s economy. He said the Mann government is committed to creating a business-friendly Punjab where honest entrepreneurs can focus on expansion rather than paperwork and delays.
MLA Dr Ajay Gupta highlighted Amritsar’s historic trade importance, stating that the government is making every effort to help the city regain its commercial prominence.
MLA Dr Jasbir Singh Sandhu said the Punjab Trade Commission will function with transparency, accountability and time-bound grievance redressal. Under a single platform, traders will receive assistance, guidance and quicker solutions to their issues.
Mayor Jatinder Singh Moti Bhatia and Chairman of Amritsar Improvement Trust Karamjit Singh Rintu also shared their views on implementing the commission effectively at the district level.
PSIDC Chairman Jaskaran Bandesha thanked the Punjab government for forming the commission and said traders would no longer face unnecessary harassment in resolving their problems.
Focus on Accountability and Ease of Doing Business
Officials from the Tax and Excise Department explained the commission’s working model and schemes aimed at trader welfare. Various trade associations presented their concerns, and officials assured timely resolution.
The formation of the Punjab Trade Commission is expected to improve governance transparency, save time and resources for traders, and boost the ease of doing business in Punjab.
