Anti-Chitta Rally Held in Sunni, Minister Warns on Drug Threat

Anti Chitta Campaign Gains Momentum in Himachal

An anti-chitta drug rally was organized on Thursday by the Shimla Gramin Sports, Cultural and Environment Association in Sunni, Himachal Pradesh. Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh attended the event as the chief guest.

The rally began at the Sunni bus stand and concluded at the SDM office, with participation from hundreds of students and local residents. Addressing the gathering, the minister highlighted the growing menace of “Chitta” (synthetic drugs) in the state, calling it one of the biggest challenges facing society today.

He stated that drug networks have spread across villages, severely impacting the youth. To tackle this issue, the state government has launched a multi-pronged campaign focusing on strict laws, effective policing, public awareness, and rehabilitation.

The government has strengthened police forces and special task units to dismantle drug trafficking networks. Increased surveillance, intelligence coordination, and interstate cooperation are being implemented, especially in sensitive and border areas. Authorities are also targeting major traffickers, including property seizures, to break the drug supply chain. Monitoring has been intensified around schools and colleges to protect students.

The minister emphasized that punitive measures alone are not enough. Awareness campaigns are being conducted at the पंचायत level under initiatives like “Nasha Mukt Himachal” to educate youth and parents. Schools and colleges are hosting seminars and counseling sessions. The government has also announced rewards ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹10 lakh for providing information about drug traffickers, ensuring confidentiality.

Anti-Chitta Volunteers to Be Formed

The minister announced that around 1,000 anti-chitta volunteers will soon be recruited to act as a bridge between the public and law enforcement agencies. He reiterated the government’s commitment to making Himachal drug-free and stressed the need for collective responsibility from administration, police, education, health departments, and citizens.

Development Projects Announced

During the event, Vikramaditya Singh also laid the foundation stone for the Thali bridge reconstruction project worth ₹10 crore and inaugurated the SDM office in Sunni. He stated that several development projects worth ₹119 crore are currently underway in the region, with additional projects worth ₹19 crore set to be approved.

He further announced plans to upgrade local schools, including converting Sunni School into a Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding School with a budget of ₹5 crore. Emphasizing modern education, he said institutions must adapt to technological advancements, including AI.
