Amritsar Police, Municipal Team Demolish Drug Peddler’s House in Gumtala

Amritsar Police Demolish Drug Peddler’s House in Gumtala

Amritsar: In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, police and the municipal corporation demolished the house of a suspected drug peddler in the Gumtala area. The operation was carried out by the municipal team, with heavy police deployment to maintain law and order.

Speaking to the media, Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the action was part of the ongoing zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking. The demolished property belonged to Raman Deep Raja, who has six FIRs registered against him since 2018. He has been repeatedly arrested for drug-related offenses and is considered a habitual drug peddler. The municipal corporation had declared his house illegal before the demolition.

Since January 1, 2026, the Amritsar Police have registered 526 cases under the anti-drug campaign, arresting 899 drug smugglers. Authorities have also seized around 34 kilograms of heroin and other narcotics, recovered ₹18,56,460 in drug money, and confiscated 19 vehicles, including seven four-wheelers and 12 two-wheelers.

Commissioner Bhullar added that police are closely monitoring drug hotspots across the city. Gumtala, previously known as a hotspot, has seen significant improvement due to strict enforcement. This marks the 23rd demolition action carried out by the Amritsar Police Commissionerate under this campaign.

Addressing youth and parents, the Commissioner emphasized that drug abuse not only destroys individual lives but also impacts families and society. He urged young people to focus on honest work and stay away from illegal activities. The demolition serves as a strong message: illegal properties built with drug money will face the law.
