Amritsar: In a major breakthrough, Amritsar Police have arrested two accused involved in a theft at UPHC Bhagtawala and recovered several stolen items within hours of the incident.
The case was registered under FIR No. 37 dated April 8, 2026, under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station C-Division, Amritsar City.
The arrested accused have been identified as Amit Sharma alias Mannu, a resident of Guru Gobind Singh Nagar, Gujjarpura, and Ankush, son of Ramesh Kumar, a resident of Dr. Ambedkar Colony Chowk, Gujjarpura, Amritsar. Both were taken into custody on April 8, 2026.
The arrests were made following directions from senior police officials, including ADCP City-1 Vishaljit Singh (PPS) and under the supervision of ACP South Parvesh Chopra (PPS). The operation was led by SHO Rajinder Singh of Police Station C-Division as part of an ongoing campaign against theft, robbery, and snatching incidents in the city.
According to police officials, the theft occurred during the intervening night of April 7 and 8, 2026, at UPHC Bhagtawala. The accused broke the window grill of the facility and stole multiple items, including an inverter, batteries, WiFi modem, air conditioners, AC compressors, and electrical wiring. They also caused significant damage to the infrastructure.
During the investigation, ASI Parminder Singh, along with the police team, acted swiftly and successfully traced the case within a few hours. The police recovered one inverter, two batteries, two automatic stabilizers, a WiFi modem, and one UPS from the accused.
The accused were produced in court on April 9, 2026, and police remand has been obtained for further interrogation. Officials believe more recoveries and disclosures related to other theft cases are likely during the ongoing investigation.
