Amritsar Haveli Foundation Meets DC to Propose Dog Shelter for Stray Dogs

The Amritsar Haveli Foundation held an important meeting with Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar, Dalwinderjit Singh (IAS), to discuss the growing issue of stray dogs in the holy city and the urgent need to establish a dedicated dog shelter.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding the increasing number of stray dogs in Amritsar and the rising incidents of road accidents and dog-bite cases involving both residents and visitors. The foundation urged the administration to treat the matter seriously and take concrete steps toward a long-term solution.

Deputy Commissioner Dalwinderjit Singh assured the delegation that the letter submitted by the foundation would be forwarded to the government for necessary consideration.

Providing information on the initiative, Chairperson Dr. Rabjeet Singh Grover stated that the Amritsar Haveli Foundation has been actively working across the country under its “Feed for Needy” mission and remains committed to serving those in need. He highlighted that Amritsar, being a sacred city visited by devotees from India and abroad, is facing challenges due to the rising stray dog population.

He pointed out that incidents such as dog bites and road accidents caused by stray animals are increasing. Both citizens and innocent animals suffer injuries and fatalities in such cases. Despite various efforts by the government and district administration, the issue has not been fully controlled.

The foundation proposed setting up a dog shelter in the outer area of Amritsar city, where stray dogs can be relocated, properly cared for, and fed by animal lovers. Dr. Grover emphasized that if Amritsar aims to maintain its image as a clean and smart city, addressing the stray dog issue through a structured shelter system is essential.

Through the memorandum, the foundation requested the administration to allocate suitable land in the city’s outskirts so that the organization can implement the project with its own support and resources.

Members present at the meeting included Varinder Singh, Raviguru, Arshdeep Singh, and Sanyam Kapoor.
