Amritsar Border: 2 Grenades Seized, 1 Arrested

In a major intelligence-based operation in the Amritsar Border Range, the rural police have arrested one accused and recovered two hand grenades allegedly smuggled from across the border. Initial investigations suggest links with Pakistan-based handlers.

Border Range DIG Sandeep Goyal stated that the operation was carried out based on credible intelligence inputs regarding the smuggling of explosive material into India through the border area. Acting swiftly, police apprehended the accused, identified as Harjit Singh, resident of Chak Misri Khan village and son of Sukhmanpreet Singh.

During a legally conducted search, two hand grenades were recovered from his possession, pointing towards a possible larger terror conspiracy. An FIR No. 33 dated 08.02.2026 has been registered at Police Station Lopoke under relevant sections of the Explosive Substances Act.

Preliminary investigation, technical analysis, and field intelligence have revealed that the recovered explosives were allegedly procured by Pakistan-based handlers and smuggled into India through a cross-border channel, reportedly via a drain route.

According to DIG Goyal, the smuggling network appears to be directly linked to Pakistan-based elements attempting to disturb peace and security in India. During interrogation, the accused reportedly disclosed information about other conspirators involved in the plot.

Considering the seriousness of the case, special police teams have been constituted to trace and arrest other suspects. Continuous raids are being conducted, and further arrests and significant revelations are expected as the investigation progresses.

Police and central agencies remain on high alert in the border areas to prevent any threat to national security.
