Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level review meeting to assess security-related issues in districts along the Indo-Nepal border in Bihar, directing authorities to strengthen border management and intensify vigilance against illegal activities.
According to sources, the meeting focused on tightening surveillance and ensuring coordinated inter-agency action to address challenges such as illegal constructions near border areas, illegal migration, circulation of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN), encroachments, and unauthorised financial flows.
The Home Minister ordered strict enforcement of a zero-tolerance policy against illegal constructions, particularly in forested and uninhabited areas. He also directed the immediate removal of encroachments identified on No Man’s Land along the Indo-Nepal border.
Officials briefed the meeting on steps to ensure due process following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). All reported death cases will be thoroughly verified, while a door-to-door survey will be conducted to cross-check individuals marked as migrated but absent during verification. Authorities have been instructed to ensure that no genuine voter is erroneously deleted from electoral rolls.
In addition, District Magistrates have been assigned enhanced responsibility to monitor legal and financial compliance by banks operating within their jurisdictions, including cooperative banks. All banks have been directed to strictly follow guidelines issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), particularly regarding reporting of high-value cash transactions and mandatory PAN linkage with bank accounts.
The Chief Secretary will review compliance measures, especially those related to cooperative banks, to ensure transparency and accountability in financial operations in border districts.
The review meeting signals the Centre’s renewed focus on strengthening security infrastructure and governance mechanisms in sensitive border areas adjoining Nepal.
