Amit Shah Blames Chemical Fertilisers for Rising Diseases, Advocates Natural Farming

Rewa, December 25 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said chemical fertilisers have become the root cause of several modern-day diseases and urged farmers to adopt natural farming, a method he claimed enhances income, conserves water, and promotes public health.

Speaking at a Farmers’ Conference in Rewa, Shah said the government is building a “comprehensive framework” covering every stage — from soil testing to laboratory certification and packaging — to ensure that Indian farm produce gains stronger global recognition amid rising international demand for natural products.

“Chemical fertilisers are behind many diseases today. Natural farming not only keeps crops pure but also secures farmers’ prosperity,” Shah remarked. He noted that a single indigenous cow can supply enough dung and urine to support the cultivation of up to 21 acres of farmland.

Highlighting its potential, Shah said nearly 40 lakh farmers across India have already embraced natural farming methods, including himself on his personal farms, which he claimed have shown increased yield. He emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has set up two major cooperative bodies to handle certification, testing, packaging, and export of naturally farmed produce.

“In the coming days, more than 400 laboratories nationwide will certify natural farming products, boosting farmers’ income by nearly 50%,” Shah said, calling it a transformative step for rural India. He also pointed out that natural farming based on cow dung could generate earnings of up to ₹1.25 lakh per acre, particularly benefiting small-scale farmers.

Earlier, Shah visited the Basaman Mama Cow Project, which he praised as an “excellent initiative.” The Basaman Mama deity, venerated in the Vindhya region, is believed to have sacrificed his life in the 8th century to protect the environment.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, and Minister Prahlad Patel were also present at the event.
