Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah interacted with drivers of Bharat Taxi and assured them of full support for the newly launched cooperative-based initiative.
Addressing the drivers, Amit Shah emphasized that Bharat Taxi belongs to them and urged them to remain patient for the next three years as the platform is currently in its growth phase. He reassured them that the initiative is built on cooperative principles and aims to empower drivers rather than exploit them.
On February 5 in Delhi, Amit Shah officially launched Bharat Taxi, India’s first government-backed cooperative ride-hailing platform. The app is being seen as an alternative to private aggregators such as Ola and Uber.
Explaining the business model, Shah said, “Our objective is to make the owner prosperous. The only difference is – you are the owner. You only need to invest Rs 500. If Bharat Taxi earns Rs 25 crore, 20 per cent will go into the company’s account as your share, and the remaining 80 per cent will be distributed based on taxi operations.”
He further highlighted that apart from regular fare income, drivers would also earn a share of the company’s profits. Transparency will be a key feature, with accounts accessible to all members.
Shah reiterated that Bharat Taxi will function strictly on cooperative principles, ensuring fair earnings and eliminating exploitation. The initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening India’s cooperative movement while offering drivers an ownership-based business model in the ride-hailing sector.
The platform is expected to reshape India’s ride-hailing ecosystem by providing drivers with financial participation and long-term benefits.
