Amritsar, March 18: Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj has raised serious concerns over the misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to hurt religious sentiments and issued an important message to the Sikh community, particularly the youth, urging responsible digital behavior.
In his statement, the Jathedar advised that whenever any objectionable AI-generated video, photograph, or online content surfaces, people should refrain from sharing it further. Instead, such material should immediately be reported as objectionable on the respective social media platforms.
He noted that many individuals unintentionally amplify harmful content by reposting or uploading it on their own accounts, which ultimately helps mischievous elements achieve their objectives and worsens the damage to religious sentiments. Prompt reporting, he emphasized, can lead to quicker removal of such content.
Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj also appealed to media organizations, social media platforms, and digital channels to exercise restraint and avoid downloading or republishing AI-generated material that may offend religious beliefs, stating that such actions only increase the spread and impact of harmful content.
Calling for stronger regulation, he urged both the central and state governments to take strict action and initiate suo motu proceedings in cases involving misuse of AI. He stressed the need for a comprehensive AI policy to prevent the creation or circulation of content offensive to religious traditions through AI tools, software, or social media platforms.
The Jathedar clarified that AI technology itself is not harmful and can contribute positively to society when used responsibly. However, misuse that disrespects religious principles, traditions, and historical values raises serious concerns.
He appealed to the Sikh Sangat to come forward collectively and take meaningful steps to counter such practices with awareness and responsibility.
