AI Will Be Next Turning Point for Punjab Agriculture: CM Bhagwant Mann

AI Key to Punjab Farming Future, Says CM Mann

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has described Artificial Intelligence (AI) as the next major turning point for agriculture in the state, emphasizing the urgent need for technological transformation to secure farmers’ future.

Addressing a state-level Kisan Mela at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Mann said traditional farming practices have reached their limits and are no longer capable of sustaining farmers’ income. He stressed that technological intervention in agriculture is essential to increase profitability, reduce pressure on natural resources, and ensure long-term sustainability.

Making a strong case for adopting AI in farming, the Chief Minister said the initiative aims to tackle declining profit margins while improving productivity through modern data-driven agricultural practices.

Launching a political attack on opposition parties, Mann alleged that years of neglect by previous governments had pushed Punjab toward an agricultural crisis. He said his government is now rebuilding the state through reform-based policies focused on farmers’ welfare, infrastructure development, and inclusive growth.

Highlighting Punjab’s historical contribution to national food security, Mann said the state played a crucial role during the Green Revolution of the 1960s, helping India achieve self-sufficiency in food grain production. However, he noted that continuous intensive farming has led to depletion of fertile soil and groundwater resources.

Referring to the growing agricultural crisis, the Chief Minister said farming has become less profitable due to shrinking margins, forcing farmers to struggle to meet basic needs. He added that existing crop technologies have nearly reached their production limits, making the adoption of AI-driven agriculture necessary to enhance income while reducing dependency on natural resources.

The government’s push toward smart agriculture is expected to promote innovation, sustainability, and long-term economic stability for Punjab’s farming community.
