Adampur Airport Likely to Remain Closed for 8 Months Due to Runway Repair; Flights to Be Affected

Adampur Airport May Shut for 8 Months for runway Repair

A major update has emerged for air travelers, especially passengers from Punjab, as the Adampur Airbase is expected to undergo extensive runway repair work, which could lead to the airport remaining closed for nearly eight months.

According to available information, the repair work at Adampur Airbase is likely to begin after November. The prolonged closure may impact flight operations significantly, causing inconvenience to passengers. The project aims to strengthen the runway in accordance with military standards.

Adampur Airport serves both civil and military aviation operations, making it strategically important. Authorities have planned the maintenance work to ensure improved safety and operational efficiency for fighter aircraft as well as commercial flights.

Meanwhile, runway maintenance activities will also affect several other airports across India. At Jodhpur Airport, repair work will begin first, resulting in the suspension of all civil flight operations from March 29 to April 27. Airlines including IndiGo, Air India, and Air India Express have already halted bookings beyond March 28.

Passengers traveling through Srinagar Airport may also face disruptions. Flight services will remain suspended on weekends between August and October. Additionally, the airport will remain completely closed for 21 days from October 16 to November 5.

Pune Airport is also expected to undergo maintenance later this year, although the detailed schedule has not yet been officially announced.

Notably, these airports are operated by the Indian Air Force and are used for both civilian flights and military aircraft. High runway quality is essential for fighter jet operations, making periodic maintenance necessary.

Officials have already informed airlines and issued notices in certain cases, allowing passengers to modify their travel plans in advance. Experts believe that while the temporary closures may cause short-term inconvenience, they will ultimately enhance long-term safety and operational efficiency.
