Shimla: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) unit, organized a massive protest demonstration on the university campus on Thursday, raising several issues related to student welfare and infrastructure.
A large number of students participated in the protest, expressing strong dissatisfaction with the university administration over what they described as growing neglect of basic facilities.
During the demonstration, Unit Joint Secretary Abhishek Sharma stated that the lack of essential infrastructure at the university has been continuously increasing. He highlighted the inadequate bus service as a major concern, saying students travelling from remote areas face significant difficulties in commuting to the campus.
Sharma also demanded the establishment of a digital library to provide students with access to modern academic resources. Additionally, he raised concerns over insufficient parking facilities and strongly opposed the recent fee hike, urging the administration to take immediate corrective measures.
Unit President Akshay Thakur criticized the university administration’s policies, stating that rising fees are placing an additional financial burden on economically weaker students, which goes against the principle of accessible education. He also pointed out the shortage of hostel accommodations, forcing many students to live in expensive private housing.
Thakur further questioned the quality of food served in hostels, emphasizing that any compromise with students’ health would not be tolerated.
Protesters also highlighted issues faced by various academic departments and demanded improved infrastructure and resources to enhance the overall academic environment of the university.
At the conclusion of the protest, ABVP activists warned that if the administration fails to address the issues promptly, the organization would intensify its agitation. They asserted that neglect of student interests would not be accepted under any circumstances.
Several office bearers and members of the student organization were present during the protest and pledged to continue their struggle for student rights.
