Main Accused in Influencer Kamal Kaur Bhabi Murder Brought Back to Punjab from UAE

Kamal Kaur Murder Case Accused Brought Back to Punjab

Bathinda: In a major breakthrough, the main conspirator in the murder case of Instagram influencer Kamal Kaur Bhabi, also known as Kanchan Kumari, has been brought back to Punjab from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The accused, identified as Amritpal Singh Mehron, was taken into custody in UAE by local authorities earlier this year. A team from Bathinda Police, led by a DSP-rank officer, coordinated with UAE officials to secure his detention and subsequent deportation. He was brought to Punjab early Thursday morning.

According to officials, Mehron was first detained by Sharjah Police in January during an inquiry related to visa issues. However, the extradition process took several months to complete before he was finally deported to India.

The murder of Kamal Kaur Bhabi took place in June 2025, when she was allegedly called to Bathinda under the pretext of attending an event. On the night of June 9–10, she was strangled to death. Her body was recovered three days later from a car parked in the premises of Adarsh University.

Police investigations revealed that Amritpal Singh Mehron, along with his associates Jaspreet Singh and Nimratjit Singh, carried out the crime. The motive, as claimed by the accused, was linked to objectionable content posted by the victim on social media, which they alleged hurt religious sentiments.

Following the incident, Mehron fled India within hours. He reportedly boarded a flight from Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport to the UAE on June 10, 2025, anticipating possible legal action and a lookout circular against him.

While two of his associates were arrested earlier by Bathinda Police, Mehron remained absconding. He was later declared a fugitive by a local court, and efforts were made to bring him back through central agencies and Interpol assistance.

The case had created widespread concern among social media influencers in Punjab, raising fears over safety and online threats, with many demanding stronger protection mechanisms.
