Poor Road Work Sparks Public Anger in Sirmaur, MLA Orders Probe

Sirmaur Road Quality Issue Sparks Political Row

Rajgarh (Sirmaur): Poor-quality road construction on the Sarahan–Chandigarh route has triggered strong public outrage in Sirmaur district, with residents questioning the quality of recent repair work.

The road’s tar coating began deteriorating within just one week of completion, raising serious concerns about construction standards. The repair work covered a seven-kilometer stretch that had long been in a damaged condition and was recently approved under a sanctioned budget. However, locals allege that substandard materials and negligence in execution led to the rapid damage of the road surface.

Residents have expressed anger, claiming that the work was carried out merely as a formality. They warned that if timely corrective action is not taken, they may be forced to launch protests.

Following the issue, local MLA Reena Kashyap visited the site and took serious note of the poor workmanship. She stated that negligence in development works funded by public money will not be tolerated.

The MLA directed the concerned department to improve the road quality within 10 days. She also warned that strict action will be taken if no improvement is seen, and added that a public agitation could be initiated if necessary.

During the inspection, she expressed dissatisfaction with the functioning of departmental officials and the contractor involved in the project.

The administration has now begun efforts to rectify the issue within the given deadline. If improvements are not made, the matter could escalate into a larger social and political conflict in the region.
